COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs
WHEN ARE CHIROPODISTS AND PODIATRISTS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THE COVID-19 VACCINE?

The MOH has a document on Guidance for Prioritizing Health Care Workers for COVID-19 Vaccination. The sector of “Podiatry” (including chiropodists and podiatrists) falls under “Community care with lower risk of exposure and serving general population”, which is identified as a Secondary Priority in the category of health care workers.

Members working in higher priority settings such as hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement homes, and other congregate care settings may be eligible for earlier vaccination based on the MOH prioritization.

IS THE COLLEGE ADVOCATING FOR ITS MEMBERS TO BE VACCINATED? I HAVE HEARD OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ARE ALREADY GETTING VACCINATED – MY FRIEND IS A DENTIST AND HAD THEIR VACCINE A WHILE AGO. WHY?

As above, the vaccine prioritization for health care workers has been established by the MOH. Dentists and other dental professionals are identified as very high priority, because they work in the mouth/respiratory system and perform aerosol-generating medical procedures (AGMPs).

IS THE COLLEGE MAKING ARRANGEMENTS TO VACCINATE MEMBERS?

The COVID-19 vaccine roll-out is driven by the MOH, and individual Public Health Units (PHUs) are responsible for scheduling and delivering vaccinations for their respective populations.

As of early March, the College has been in contact with multiple PHUs seeking information for our Members to begin vaccination arrangements. The College will be receiving notice from each PHU and will contact Members within the appropriate region(s) when instructed to do so.

CAN MY STAFF BE VACCINATED TOO?

As per the MOH’s prioritization document: “In alignment with the definition of Health Care Worker that has been provided, where a health sector has been named in the priority sector, all workers in that sector are included (e.g., including custodial, security and reception staff). Where a non-health setting has been named, only workers providing a health service or direct patient care are included.”

WHAT TYPE OF IDENTIFICATION DO I NEED TO PRESENT WHEN I ARRIVE TO BE VACCINATED?

Members working for larger employers might be able to show a workplace ID, while others might not have that option. Those who are responsible for checking IDs at the time of vaccination could go to the College’s public register – in real time – as an option, if required. For proof of eligibility, Members may wish to print the MOH’s HCW Prioritization Document, which references “Podiatry/Chiropody” on page 12.

**As soon as the College receives any further information or instruction from the MOH or PHUs, Members will be notified.**
