Funding for Therapy and Counselling for Sexual Abuse Victims
COCOO provides funding for therapy and counseling to patients that allege sexual abuse by a chiropodist or podiatrist.
You can apply for funding by filling out the application form and submitting it to the College.
Who is eligible for funding?
If it is alleged in a complaint or registrar’s report that a patient was sexual abused by a chiropodist or podiatrist, the patient may be eligible for funding. Patients should submit an application as early as possible to receive the full benefit of the funding.
Who can be the therapist?
There are only two restrictions about who can be a patient’s therapist:
- They must not be a member of the patient’s family.
- They must not have been found to have committed professional misconduct of a sexual nature or be found to be civilly or criminally liable for a similar act.

How much funding can an abuse victim receive from the College?
The maximum amount is the amount that the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) would pay for 200 half-hour sessions of individual out-patient psychotherapy with a psychiatrist on the day the person becomes eligible.
