Quality Assurance Continuing Education Program
The Quality Assurance Program provides registrants with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge base and clinical skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality footcare services to the public.
The Continuing Education Program (CEP) is one component of the Quality Assurance Program that is mandated under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991. The CEP is designed to accommodate a wide variety of learning styles and recognize regional disparity of valid educational courses.
The College’s educational activities are divided into two broad categories. The College also provides a self-assessment tool for self-directed learning, which includes an outcomes coding section. These are designed to help registrants to critically assess their own learning activities and how those activities translate to a positive change in their practice. We urge registrants to incorporate this program into their own individual lifelong learning plans.
Continuing Education (CE) Modules:
The College’s CE modules are designed to help registrants learn about and stay updated regarding College programs, policies and procedures. Learn more about Continuing Education and Self-Assessment Requirements in the Quality Assurance Policy.
Continuing Education Cycle
All registrants are required to complete a minimum of twenty-five (25) credit hours annually and record their educational activities in their Continuing Education log. The current cycle is between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
According to section 28 (3) of the General Regulation, if you are a new registrant of the College who has registered in the middle of a CE cycle, the number of credits you need is prorated from the time of your registration.
Self-Assessment Tool
The SAT can be used in conjunction with the CE Log to encourage and guide continuous learning. This tool helps registrants summarize their strengths and opportunities to enhance the various skills, knowledge and abilities needed in their practice. This tool can be used at any point in a registrant’s career, on an ongoing basis.
The SAT was developed on the basis of Standards of Practice, Competencies, Code of Ethics, Provincial and College Regulations and Guidelines. Registrants can compare their performance to other registrants within their membership class in the areas of communication skills, record keeping, collaboration, research principles, and clinical and theoretical knowledge. An action plan can be developed from this self-assessment. This tool is not a test, but a guide to define individual learning objectives. All registrants should expect that some areas require educational growth, regardless of their experience, education or competence.
Each registrant must complete a minimum of one (1) self-assessment during each CE cycle and retain the completed SAT in their files.
Note: This shorter version of the SAT was redesigned with improved accessibility and ease of use, however, a copy of the longer format of the SAT can be accessed by registrants who prefer a more detailed format.

Continuing Education Log
Your CE Log for the current annual cycle is the same as the one used in the last cycle. However, the outcome measure is now one simple question, “How useful was this course in bringing a positive change into your practice?”
Please complete your CE Log with as much detail as possible for each description of educational activity. For example, describe each course attended during a three-day conference, rather than just identifying a provider conference. In the outcomes code column, you can evaluate the level to which each educational activity has helped bring about a positive change in the practical setting.
You are required to retain proof of completion of activities: receipts, course materials and certifications. Such documents should be stored with the CE Log for a period of five (5) cycles (5 years). Following completion of this upcoming cycle, up to ten (10) percent of registrants will be asked to submit their CE Logs with all supporting materials (e.g. copies of receipts, diplomas and certificates) for evaluation by the QA Committee.
NEW! Registrants can also earn credits by completing the College’s CE Modules.
